Although I’m not generally a fan of the French saison varietals, I find this quite pleasant. The overwhelming aroma is quite pungent and not very ‘fresh’. However, the taste is quite the opposite. It goes down light and smooth, with fruity undertones and a tinge of sweetness. Simultaneously, however, there is a consistent bitterness that offers a welcome complexity. A very drinkable beer at 7.5%, and borrowing several traits of from the neighboring Belgian wheat beers. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and one of the few saison ales that I would revisit

This tasty ale comes from Belgium, the land of many a tasty ale. This one doesn’t give us too much information on the bottle, except to note that this is an “Unfiltered, bottle-conditioned Belgian ale”. So, your guess is as good as mine. The pour of this one ends up being a much lighter unfiltered golden than I expected. It looks and smells quite pleasant, with a hefty herbal bouquet. In the mouth, this one initially hits you with a heavy does of carbonation. Following that is a flowery hop bitterness – not terribly bitter, but fairly abrupt. You can taste the freshness of the hops, and it even hits the nose some as it goes down. In the finish there is a light sweetness that follows nicely from the prior hoppiness to give a good easy finish. All in all, a tasty beer and a nice journey of flavors through the mouth.
