The initial aroma of this ale is quite startling. Sweet and tart, it is unlike any beer aroma I have yet experienced. The taste is rather pleasant. Fairly sweet, but with a lingering sourness and a great deal of complexity. A number of flavors make themselves apparent through the mouth – currant, cherry, citrus, and others I’ll have difficulty identifying. I have never had another buckwheat ale, so I have no room for comparison. However, this is all-around an excellent beer, and one which I would like to see other breweries experiment with
