@Buttle: thanks for the comment about including the glassware in the beer basket/box/bag (I’ve added that to the post). I definitely agree that it is easier buying for a newbie. Hope you get the book for Christmas!
I am looking for a beer club to send as a gift to my son who is turning 21 this month. Are you familar with beeronthewall.com or Hog’s Head Beer of the Month Club? He is planning on attending UC Davis and getting a degree in Fermentation Science. They also have an advanced degree in Master Brewing.
Thanks!
Hey Lisa,
We’re pretty big fans of the Beer of the Month Club here at SevenPack. As beer geeks who’ve reviewed well over 600 beers (I don’t even want to know how many I’ve drunk and never reviewed), it’s fairly difficult to surprise us with something new. But, BOMC has consistently provided us with beers that are adventurous and often not available via wide distribution in my area. Furthermore, they tend to provide a good variety in each shipment, with an eye towards seasonal brews. I’m not familiar with the others you speak of, but I’m happy to recommend BOMC. They send out a 12-pack every month that is delivered promptly and in great condition – check out their website at http://www.beermonthclub.com if you’re interested. Thanks for visiting! -Ben

Okay, so you might not be a “make a gift” person, so how about giving a book about beer? There are plenty of books out there to choose from. The books range in topic from “Top Beers of the World” to “How to Cook with Beer” to “Pair Beer and Food” to “How to Brew Your Own Beer”. A book about beer might not sound as “fun” as actual beer you can drink, but a lot of craft beer drinkers enjoy learning about beer too. I actually picked up

I am glad to hear you liked Ultimate Beer, because I’ve told people that I’d like to receive it for Christmas.
I also bought beer for a friend as a gift, and I think it’s easier to buy for a newbie than a connoisseur. The more someone is “into” a hobby, the harder it is to shop for him. I threw in a couple glasses too (a hint for someone used to drinking beer out of bottles).
